Navegando en la noche. Driving in the night.

I am in the bridge, drawing lines ,parallels and meridians in the nautical chart preparing the navigation. I feel very excited thinking to drive one of our inflatables: "Hurricane" in the middle of the dark night between unlit buoys toward one port that I have never seen before. It is a new challenge, as everything on board. I feel happy thinking that my whole life has lead me here, with all my experiences good and bad ones. Now, it is time to use my skills in the right way and in the right place, in Greenpeace.

Nos acercamos al puerto en nuestro bote "Hurricane", casi no queda luz, pero intento fijarme en todo lo que puedo antes de que se haga realmente oscuro. Demasiadas boyas, rocas, islas para memorizar, así que simplemente confio en mi intuición y en la suerte. Llegamos al solitario puerto y nadie nos está esperando, los periodístas a los que ibamos a recoger están pérdidos en la otra punta de la isla.

We have decided to come back from the little port. Now it is very dark. I try to remember the position of the buoys but it is impossible. I can only trust in my intuition and good luck.When I can see different red lights , I increase the speed of the boat and hear the roar of 200 horse power in the stern. Suddently an unlit buoy appear in the bow, I have only one second to alter my course and avoid it. Finally, when we are free of the buoys, I can see the lights of the mast in the Rainbow Warrior. I accelerate to full speed,it is so good to feel fresh air in my face...

Volamos hacia el Rainbow Warrior en completa oscuridad. El aire es frío y cortante pero ya puedo ver las luces de los palos del Rainbow Warrior anclado en la lejanía. Nos abarloamos y desembarcamos del "Hurrican", que bueno sentirse otra vez en casa.
